Amazon Polly: the latest addition to the Amazon smart family
Amazon has recently revealed its new Amazon Polly service, a tool that turns text into spoken commands.
By simply sending the text you need transforming into dialogue to the Amazon Polly API, the system immediately transforms it to speech and returns the audio to you through your application. These can then be played or stored into a standard audio file format including MP3.
The simplicity of Amazon Polly means that creating applications that can talk, including a wide range of speech-enabled products, can be a quick and easy process. The system produces interactive dialogue that can be saved and redistributed for future use, and, as you only purchase the number of characters converted, it’s a very cost-effective way to enable the Text-to-Speech service on any platform.
Amazon Polly will be an endlessly useful tool as it creates the opportunity for entirely new categories of speech-enabled products, including mobiles app, cars, devices and appliances. The system will also be of use in a number of professions including as an announcement service for public transportation, for industrial control systems, emergency announcements and also for the benefit of the blind and visually impaired.
Amazon has also prepared Polly to work on a wide range of devices including set-top boxes, smart watches, tablets, smartphones and IoT devices.
The Amazon Polly has forty-seven life-like voices in twenty different languages. For more information, please visit www.aws.amazon.com/polly.
